Yaghan Women

The Yaghan women spent long hours in the canoe fishing and gathering mussels and crabs - only the women knew how to swim.
A extraordinary man - Tom Bridges, so named because he was found as an orphan under a London bridge and adopted by a missionary, came here with his father who set up the first Christian mission in 1870. He lived among the Yagan all his life, learning their complex tribal language and compiled the only Yaghan-English dictionary ever to exist.
